The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) allegedly offered bags of rice for N10,000, and footage of some Lagos State residents waiting in line to buy them has surfaced.
News alerts Customs has declared that starting on Friday, food goods that have been seized will be distributed.
Customs officers are not permitted to participate in the procedure, according to a statement made available to media in Lagos by NCS Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi.
According to the statement issued through the service’s National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, Adeniyi stated that the rice will be packaged in 25kg bags and sold for N10,000.
The target groups, he said, included artisans, teachers, nurses, religious bodies, and other Nigerians within its operational areas.
The aim, he said, is to establish direct communication with members through these structured systems in order to guarantee the utmost effectiveness of this initiative.
Adeniyi issued a warning against food item resale, stressing that the NCS is committed to accountability and openness at every stage of the procedure.
